Obstacle courses are fun and exciting but it is important to prepare our health and skin prior to the event. I have put together some useless tips to help you look and feel your best on the day.
Cold Harsh weather conditions can deprive your complexion of moisture and wreak havoc on your skin.
Humidity levels tend to drop off in the autumn and winter months. The drier the air, the more moisture it sucks from your skin, so you’re more likely to experience dryness and flakiness during the colder months of the year, especially if you’re prone to eczema or other dry skin conditions.
Here is advice on how to protect your skin and well-being not only for the obstacle run but useful tips for the upcoming winter months.
Protection – SPF is so important. UVA and UVB sun rays are damaging to your skin, over time it breaks down the elastin on the skin which causes premature Aging. Over exposure to the skin results in fine lines and wrinkles mostly on the face, neck and hands. Pigmentation is also caused by sun damage especially on darker skin tones. The biggest mistake most people make is only wearing SPF when the sun is shining. We are exposed to sun rays every day even in winter.
Moisturise is the key. Find a moisturizer that is oil based rather than water based, as the oil will create a protective layer on the skin that will retain more moisture.
Exfoliate – Our skin sheds every 28 days so it is important we help our skin remove any dead skin cells remaining Exfoliation removes any dead cells and rejuvenates the skin. Cold weather can dry out the skin so exfoliation is needed more in autumn, winter months.
Cleansing – Throughout the day the skin on your face is continually covered with bacteria, pollutants, viruses, dirt, and old dead skin cells. Daily facial washing removes these impurities to give the skin a fresh look .
Hydration – Dont hydrate just for your skin, hydrate for your internal organs. Health reflects from the inside out. Water will Help energize Muscles. Lack of water can result in muscle fatigue. Drink water before your workout, and drink water at regular intervals to replace fluids lost by sweating. Water also helps your skin looking good, lack of water in the body causes your skin to become dehydrated which can cause fine lines, wrinkles and a dull complexion. Drinking two litres per day will help reduces dehydration on the skin
Hand-cream – Our hands are our tools, we have them exposed daily in all conditions. Apply a hand cream every morning and evening to keep them soft and radiant.

Since my teenager years I have always been interested in my skincare regime. I ventured into the beauty industry before my makeup artistry studies which helped me thoroughly understand how the skin works and what it needs.
Looking after your skin is essential, not only to have healthy radiant skin but also gives you a flawless base for your foundation. This is a factor that most women and men don’t understand. Do you ever question “why is my foundation not lasting”?. Makeup needs a fresh clean base, to adhere the products.
The skin constantly produces new cells but as we get older the process slows down so we need to work with our skin and give it some help. A build up of cells on the skin can give a rough texture with a flakey appearance. For radiant glowing skin new fresh cells are needed on the top layer of the skin.
First of all know your skin type, there are so many skincare products out there to suit each type of skin. Believe it or not using the wrong products for your skin can be more damaging then not using any products at all. Skincare products do not have to be expensive. I have found some great high street brands that work wonders so search around, boots do fantastic ranges suitable for all ages and price range.
Bin the face wipes – Please do not use wipes to cleanse your face everyday. Wipes are too abrasive for the skin and do not give the skin a deep cleanse.
Cleanse -cleansing the skin will remove dirt on the surface of the skin. Cleansing the skin should be done twice daily every morning and evening. Cleansers come in many different forms lotions, creams, balms and oils.
Toning- Helps tighten the skin and pores, removes trace of any cleanser on the skin and refreshes the skin. Use every morning and evening.
Exfoliate- Helps to remove dead skin cells. Exfoliation should be done twice a week for oily skin and once a week for normal to dry skin.
Mask- Helps penetrate the skin with ingredients suitable for the skin type. Apply once a week.
Serum – serums are lighter in texture than moisturisers but contain more active ingredients. More suitable for mid twenties upwards. I wouldn’t recommend for teenage skin. Apply only every evening.
Moisturiser -Helps keep the skin soft and hydrated and acts as a barrier to protect the skin. Apply every morning and evening.
Eye cream- Helps keep the eyes hydrated apply every morning and evening around the eye socket.
Lashes are a must have in my kit when creating makeup looks. They can intensify the eye makeup and can give the illusion of a bigger eye shape. Lashes come in different lengths, thickness and styles. I have always found it difficult to find the perfect lashes, the brands would lack in a selection of styles or the band of the lash strip were too thick and are difficult to apply to the eyes.
I Have finally found the most spectacular lashes. Baby Doll Cosmetics are an Irish company who launched in 2013 at the RDS. They have a wide range of lashes in different lengths and thickness to suit all individuals. I have been using BAbydoll lashes for about a year now and I still love them as much as day one., the quality of the lashes are amazing they are lightweight and easy to apply.
My favourite are the 870 lashes, they are an average length with a demi wispy effect. The lashes are natural but yet still achieves fullness of the eye.
If you prefer more length and minimum thickness the 795 are the ones for you. I get asked so many times, what lashes i’m wearing when wearing these beauties, the 795 they are light enough for daytime use. They are perfect if you naturally have thick lashes but need to add that extra length.
If you like the full dramatic look the 807 are your dream lashes, they have amazing fullness and are super dark, perfect to add definition to the eyes. Great lashes for party nights out perfect for a bold make up look.
You can purchase The lashes at http://www.babydoll.ie/ , hurry up and show off them lashes girls. There is also new lashes just been added to the Babydoll family 704 and 711 super excited to try them. I am wearing 870 lashes in this makeup look.
Every bride wants to look radiant on their wedding day, where good make-up is a must to cover imperfections and create a flawless makeup look. However, sometimes layers of foundation just does not cut it. A good make-up application requires a healthy canvas to create a picture perfect look for your big day. Here is a few tips to help develop glowing skin for your big day!
We all have heard that drinking water is the key for clear skin so now its time to follow through! It will not happen over night so start 6 months before the date to ensure your skin is glowing and eyes sparkling on the day.Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily to help your skin and body get rid of toxins. Water will keep your skin hydrated which will help reduce wrinkles and dry flaky skin. It also helps in blood circulation which will give your skin the glow you want for your wedding day.
I know it sounds boring right? Exercise will make you feel better and have more energy. I am well aware that it is a struggle to get up off the sofa, especially on these cold winters evenings, but I always feel great after a 30 minute walk and have so much more energy its amazing. Exercise will improve over all health conditions, help control weight balance, improves your mood by stimulating brain chemicals that makes you feel happy and boosts confidence. Oxygen levels are increased which deliver nutrients to your muscles and skin. Exercise is proven to help us sleep better which they say we need 6-8 hours minimum a night and it is meant to improve life in the bedroom department. Overall, its beneficial and doesn’t cost anything so it’s a win all around.
Skincare Use a brand that suits you, what works for me might not benefit you. Try products a few months before your wedding date to see what brand suits you, do not change a week before the date incase of an allergic reaction which would be a nightmare.
Cleanse– Cleansing is perhaps the easiest, least expensive and most important element of maintaining healthy skin. It is the building block of a healthy skin care regime. Cleansing removes excess oil and impurities from your skin and helps improve its health and radiance. Cleansing also helps prepare your skin for the other steps in your skin care program. Choose a suitable cleanser to suit your skin type.
Toner-Toning is an important second step that completes the cleansing process, yet many people choose to leave this step out. Toning should be considered an important part of the cleansing process. Toner will remove any remaining bits of oil, dirt and debris left behind by the cleanser. More importantly, toner will help soothe, nourish and hydrate the skin while restoring its pH balance.
Moisturiser– Moisturising forms a barrier between the skin and environmental conditions, helping to form a fine, protective layer that enables the skin to retain the moisture it requires. Choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type, moisturiser come in two forms: liquid and cream. Rich, liquid and cream moisturiser take care of dry and wrinkled skin. Water-based, oil free moisturizer works best for oily skin. Our skin at night replenish itself so it is most important to apply a good moisturiser at night. Coconut oil is a good product that will not cost you a fortune.
Exfoliate– Exfoliate your face once or twice a week depending on the oil content in your skin, it will help remove dead skin cells and help cell generation.
Masks– use a mask to suit your skin type , masks will help soothe, mositurise and help improve radiance.
Facials-I recommend Each bride to go for a course of facial treatments, once every 6 weeks coming up to the big day. I would again advise not having a facial the week of your wedding date as you can never be too safe and we don’t want to have a swollen bride on the day.
I recommend the Guinot Hydradermie2 I treat myself every 6 weeks and I notice such a difference. Check out Sam McCauley Website for more Details and Bookings
Food- Healthy eating is hard I admit but it’s all about balance! We all like to indulge in a bar of chocolate once in a while but moderation is the key. Eat lots of fruit (especially watermelon), veg and fish are excellent food sources for glowing radiant skin also.
